SA Brain, Wales’ leading drinks and hospitality company, is to open a 43,000 sq ft distribution centre at the Whitland Green Business Park, Carmarthenshire.

The site has been made available by Whitland Green Business Park Ltd, a company created by South Wales property developer Dovey Estates to revitalise the 18-acre former Dairy Crest creamery complex which it acquired three years ago.

The £1m investment by SA Brain, which has been supported by the Welsh Assembly Government and Carmarthenshire County Council, marks the company’s commitment to developing its business in West Wales.

“We are delighted to have signed the agreement to develop the Whitland site as our flagship operation in West Wales. West Wales is an increasingly important trading area for our business and the new site gives us further opportunities to increase our levels of customer service and the working environment for our staff,” explained Richard Davies, Sales & Marketing Director, SA Brain.

Mike Baroth, Director of Whitland Green Business Park, said, “This is excellent news for the region as a whole, and the former creamery site in particular. SA Brain is one of Wales’ most prestigious companies and its presence at Whitland Green Business Park will help us advance the remaining employment, community space and residential elements we would like to bring to the area.

“As we have stated previously, our overriding concern in redeveloping this extremely important site will be to match the needs of local people. We will continue to work closely with planning officials to ensure completion of a sensitive development."

SA Brain joins occupier Ben Evans & Son, a wholesale electrical business, which operates from an 83,000 sq ft warehouse and headquarters complex at Whitland Green.

SA Brain will use the hub to help service its extensive retail business across South West Wales. The company recently augmented its 250-plus estate of pubs by acquiring 27 pubs belonging to Innkeeper Wales spread mostly throughout West Wales.

Gareth Johns, Head of Estates and Acquisitions, SA Brain, said, “Whitland Green provides a first-class location for the new distribution centre, because of its excellent transport links to outlying West Wales towns and the company’s brewery and headquarters in Cardiff.”
